AC Trip Report...Presidents' Day weekend
This is the Presidents’ Day Atlantic City trip report. Unlike other bloggers, I won’t be going into much details but rather highlight some of the stuff that went down.
Borgata 3/6: Cal and I head out to Borgata for some poker. Now various forums were all “ga-ga” about Borgata. Hot waitress, cushioned chairs, and etc etc were often mentioned. I’m not all that impressed. When I play poker the last thing I need to look at is hooters and whether or not if a chip will be able to slide down between those implants. Cal was at the 6/12 game while I decided to tackle the 3/6. I started out playing with a bunch of old foggies. They are probably from the same retirement community. The only good player was the guy on my right. He looks 25 or so and seemed to know the game quite bit. The guy across from me played EVERY HAND. He would look at his cards and call the blinds. I’m like “Dude why even look at your cards? You are gonna bet anyways!!!” This old foggy started with about $250 in front of him. For 2 hours his stack ranged from about $280 to $70 or so. I’ve gotten my trips and two pairs busted by his straights and flushes on the river. Even if I reraise preflop with KK, he was gonna call the 3 bet regardless. Sure enough his mighty monster 10-8 pairs up to beat my kings. Sigh…. After about 5 hours of play, Cal decided he had enough of 6/12 and was hungry (me too). I left Borgata +$7.
Tropicana 4/8 (1st session): I had to run down to Burger King to grab lunch for Cal since we just arrived in time for him to play in the tournament ($150 + $30). After giving him his lunch, I decided to jump in the 4/8 game. Members at the 2+2 forum said that this limit/location is very soft and my golly they are correct. Good news is that most of the players suck but the bad news was that I kept getting sucked out. If a player is dealt with a face card whether it is K2, Q6, or J4, he/she is gonna play it regardless. After about 4 hours, Cal busted out of the tournament (50th or so out of 112) and was a little cranky that someone trapped and busted him out….At the flop AK9, he flopped a two pair (A9) vs. someone’s trips (KKK). Also around this time, the loose players started to leave and the smart players started to join in. The table dynamics shifted big time as before 7 or 8 would see the flop and now only 3 or 4. It was a good session even though I left that table -$90.
Tropicana 4/8 (2nd session): I was on a mission here. Pissed at losing $90 the first time around, I was determined to make it up. I sat down and someone mentioned something about Pacific Poker (my black cap). I just said “yeah I found it at my local salvation army.” My $200 stack quickly went up to $310. I was feeling good I knew the players very well. There was only 2 good players and I sat right between them. Then 2 goofballs joined our table. My top pair on the flop gets a spanked by a 2 pair on the river. My two pair gets a whupping by a straight at the river. Before I knew it, my $310 stack withered down to $60. Here is a classic example: I was dealt with ATo in middle position and limped in along with 6 others…flop came T45…BB bets…folds to me and reraised him….everyone folds and BB calls…what could he have? Obviously not a better hand because he would’ve reraised me. Turn came an 8….BB checks I bet….he calls!?!?! River….A…. He bets first…. I am thinking “does he have a 23?”….He was a kind of player that was playing his 74 diamonds and etc….I just called his bet….sure enough he had a 23….I just flip over my AT (two pair) and let everyone know about it. Then he had the nerve to say “Thank You”. The Ahole is lucky I didn’t break his neck. After about 6 hours of play, I’ve decided I had enough. As I was leaving, the good player on my right had his pocket aces cracked by the same Ahole who was holding a 95 for his two pair…his 5 came up on the turn. Sighh….end of this session -$80
Tropicana 2/4: Ol’ buddy Bird came up to join Cal and I in Atlantic City. To our disappointment, there weren’t any Omaha 8 tables running. So we decided to sit side by side (Bird on my right) at the 2/4. Both of us joined in with a rack of whites ($100). Of course, 3 players had the WPT/WSOP outfits on (sunglasses and all). The first two hands I was dealt with AK and AQ. Both hands lost and I was already down to $75 before I actually got started. After awhile, things got better and before I knew it, I was already up $50. It didn’t matter if I was UTG and raised preflop with my KK. I was still going to get 5 or 6 callers. Fortunately for me, my premium pocket pairs held up at this table (which didn’t at the 4/8). I told Bird, who is still learning a thing or two about Texas, that if he is dealt with a premium hand like AA, KK, and etc, he should raise preflop. About 3 hands later, we were in the middle position and I was dealt with a nice pair of tens. Bird here raise preflop. I took a good 2 minutes to decide what I was gonna do. I decided to fold. Sure enough Bird won the pot with pocket aces. After about 8 hours of play, Bird and I were hungry and were due to meet three other friends downstairs at Corky’s (BBQ joint). End of this session +145.
Total for the whole AC Presidents’ Day weekend poker fest: -$18
